This is a composite file of photographs that chronicles several types of disasters the rotate through the mountains of Eastern Kentucky. The flooding of the Pine Mountain Settlement School campus in 1929; the various forest fires; logging and the building of railroads and roads to transport logs, strain the environment. An early narrow-guage rail line once cut through the center of the campus in the very early years of the 1920s.
The photographer(s) is not known but the images likely represent multiple photographers. The numbers associated with the photographs are those assigned by Berea College when they microfilmed the Pine Mountain Settlement School photograph collections in 1983 and catalogued the collections. Berea assigned this group as Series VII, Box 96 photographs. The selected photographs are sequenced 2379- 2410 with a total photograph count of 37 photographs .
