The PMSS Calendar 1953 is, in part, a repeat of the 1947 calendar. The painting of Abbie [Abby] Winch Christensen, a former worker at Pine Mountain Settlement School, captured the bountiful array of mountain laurel the grows in abundance in the Pine Mountain area.

The poem by Ruth Campbell does not appear in this later 1953 calendar and instead, Burton Rogers, the Director provides information on updates at the School. He advises that the School, now under the supervision of Berea College, has replaced the boarding school program with a co-operative school program with the Harlan County school system. He announces the creation of a new hospital and an experimental farm program that are now features of the School.
