SCRAPBOOK BEFORE 1929: “Folk Schools in the Southern Mountains …”<\/h2>\n

A reprint from the SCRAPBOOK BEFORE 1929: “Folk Schools in the Southern Mountains …”:

The Scrapbook Before 1929<\/strong> is an eclectic aggregate of newspaper clippings, clipped journal articles, photographs, letters, notes, calendars, and more. It is a record of the interests of Pine Mountain Settlement School staff and administrators and captures the context in which the school evolved during the years from 1913 to the end of 1929.<\/p>\n

A second Scrapbook From 1930<\/strong> was also compiled but due to copyright restrictions, much of the content of this second scrapbook cannot be reproduced in full. This second scrapbook was maintained until the end of the 1950s and then was replaced by clipping files that continue to be\u00a0collected.<\/p>\n

The following are images of an undated\u00a0article, possibly reprinted from The Spirit of Missions,\u00a0<\/i>that was included in the Scrapbook Before 1929. The article was written by The Reverend Franklin J. Clark and titled “Folk Schools in the Southern Mountains.” It is subtitled, “Friends of our Southern Highlanders have followed the lead of a great Danish educator and established a Folk School at Brasstown.”<\/p>\n
