Jubilee Cottage [North flank, seen from below] nace_1_055b.jpg<\/p><\/div>Jubilee (Doctor’s) Cottage was constructed\u00a0in 1940. The cost of construction was $1606.00 as described in the director’s report of 1941. The building was constructed\u00a0as a one-story frame building in the style of a “cottage” of the time. A garage\/basement is beneath the building and is accessible by a driveway from the Line Fork road which runs in front of the structure.<\/p>\n
The interior of the structure is comprised of four rooms and a bath. The inventory describes the house as “adequate for housekeeping.”<\/p>\n

[II_7_farm_house_304xxx.jpg]<\/p><\/div>A handwritten note\u00a0from 1940 indicates that the cottage was built with money collected at the School’s Silver Jubilee and was built first as a doctor’s residence and later (1950) as a\u00a0residence for staff members.<\/p>\n
A progress report of the cottage’s construction was present to the Board of Trustees, c. 1940,\u00a0by Director Glyn Morris<\/a>:<\/p>\n C. New Doctor’s House.<\/em><\/p>\n Is well underway, with student labor and one outside carpenter. New Doctor has arrived. House is well and attractively located up on slope above the infirmary,<\/a> across the road from it, between Practice House<\/a> (Country Cottage) and the poultry sheds which are being demolished. It has a stone basement for furnace and garage, built from stones left from Laurel House — old bricks usable for the chimney. This was much desired by Mr. Morris to relieve the problem of workers accommodations which has been acute for the past two or three years, to help in the present congestion caused by the fire, to offer an added inducement for the doctor’s permanence, to free him for his fullest usefulness.<\/em><\/p>\n Residents of the small cottage included Dr. Elizabeth Henderson in the 1940s and the teachers Gerna<\/a>\u00a0and Cora Campbell and daughter Barbara in the late 1940s and 1950s. From the 1970s forward it has served as a residence for interns in the environmental program and other workers.<\/p>\n Jubilee Cottage, under construction, 1950.
