Napier<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019s handwritten letter is transcribed on the page for GRACE LEWIS CREECH.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>Ben F. Napier <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(b. 1872), a farm laborer, was the father of Sarah Ellen Bailey (b. May 7, 1914). Sarah described her mother, <\/span><b>Malissa Jane (Curry) Napier<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (b. 1873), as a \u201cgreat herb doctor\u201d who was happiest when she was sitting at her spinning wheel. According to the 1920 U.S. Census, Sarah, at five years old, was the youngest of eight children. Her brothers were <\/span><b>Bradley<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (24), <\/span><b>George<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (20), <\/span><b>Floyd<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (17), <\/span><b>Ada<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (15), <\/span><b>Johney<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (9), <\/span><b>Loyd<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (7). She had one sister, <\/span><b>Lizebeath<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (12). At the time of the Census, the family was living in Jane, (Harlan County), Kentucky. <a href=\"http:\/\/staging.pinemountainsettlement.net\/?page_id=15574\">SARAH BAILEY<\/a> biography.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>Ben Napier <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and<\/span><b> Lloyd Turner <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">wrote \u201cTurner\u2019s True Story,\u201d in which the grandson of Lloyd Turner tells the story of slick horse and mule trading by Loyd and Ben Napier with Mr. Chapel. <a href=\"http:\/\/staging.pinemountainsettlement.net\/?page_id=14795\">MARGARET MOTTER WRITING: \u201cTURNER\u2019S TRUE STORY.\u201d<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>Darlene Napier<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is listed as \u201cReporter\u201d for the Youth Group \u201cC\u201d in the <a href=\"http:\/\/staging.pinemountainsettlement.net\/?page_id=38050\">1963 GUIDANCE INSTITUTE REPORT<\/a> (pp. 49-58).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>Floyd Napier<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> married Lilly (or Lillie) Day and had 3 children: <\/span><b>Sol<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Nel<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><b>Delphia<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, according to genealogy information in <a href=\"http:\/\/staging.pinemountainsettlement.net\/?page_id=2943\">SOL DAY<\/a>\u2019s biography.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>Glynn Napier <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is named in one of Glyn Morris\u2019 1934 letters. <a href=\"http:\/\/staging.pinemountainsettlement.net\/?page_id=50215\">GLYN MORRIS 1934 Correspondence<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><b>Glynn Napier\u2019<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">s article \u201cA Description from the Study of \u2018The Tale of Two Cities\u2019\u201d was published in the student publication, <a href=\"http:\/\/staging.pinemountainsettlement.net\/?page_id=1648\">PINE CONE 1932<\/a>. He was the editor of the \u201cWorld News\u201d section of <a href=\"http:\/\/staging.pinemountainsettlement.net\/?page_id=10603\">PINE CONE 1934<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>H. Napier<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019s sixth grade letter is transcribed as an example of Kentucky mountain parlance. <a href=\"http:\/\/staging.pinemountainsettlement.net\/?page_id=14350\">MARGARET MOTTER NOTEBOOK<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>Id and Lira Napier<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are mentioned in a letter from Evelyn K. Wells to her family dated May 4, 1918(?), describing a shooting on Abner\u2019s Branch. <a href=\"http:\/\/staging.pinemountainsettlement.net\/?page_id=40212\">EVELYN K. WELLS 1918 Excerpts From Letters Home<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>James Napier<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> wrote a children\u2019s letter (#49), to Miss [Margaret] Motter. [Notation at top of page: \u201c\u20261930s?\u201d] \u201cEnglish II. \u201cTwo years ago I decided to quit school. I was in the first year high school\u2026I decided to go up in Ohio to try to get a job, so the first day I got there I went to work so it made me believe I were a real man and didn\u2019t need any education\u2026.[the foreman] put me a hold of a pick and shovel and told me to work hard. When he said that my mind turned toward how I were going to live so I returned home and begin to school again and I never have had least idea at that kind of work any more.\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/staging.pinemountainsettlement.net\/?page_id=44297\">EDUCATION &#8211; CHILDREN\u2019S WRITING III<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>John Calvin Napier <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and<\/span><b> Shafer Napier<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> were listed among the men from Perry County, KY, who were U.S. Army Privates in the WWI. Source: \u201cHazard, Heart of the Coal Fields\u201d by Samuel Morse Chenault, <em>Lexington Herald<\/em>, [Dec. 21, 1919]. LOCAL HISTORY SCRAPBOOK &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/staging.pinemountainsettlement.net\/?page_id=15880\">Hazard, Heart of the Coal Fields 1919<\/a>.&#8221; They were also among those listed in the LOCAL HISTORY SCRAPBOOK narrative, \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/staging.pinemountainsettlement.net\/?page_id=15860\">History of the Combs Family<\/a>,\u201d by S.S. Combs. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>Kyle Napier<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is mentioned in the October 2008 Notes: \u201cIn recent years, Ben [Begley] has [worked] with Kentucky State Nature Preserves Commission (KSNPC) and Kentucky Natural Lands Trust, which is working to preserve special natural areas on Pine Mountain\u201d in partnership with the School. The article quotes Ben as saying, \u201cI\u2026never tire of spending time in the forest with my colleagues: Hugh Archer, Tom Barnes, Marc Evans, Kyle Napier, and Wally Roberts.
