Title III ESE\u00c0 workshops: 1 for librarians, 1 for teachers of practical arts, 1 for social studies teachers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Community folk dance parties. A group went to Berea for the Mountain Folk Festival.<\/span><\/p>\n

Wildflower and Bird Week-ends, Summer Spinning Bee, led by local craftswoman Sarah Bailey<\/a> and members of the Kentucky Weaver’s Guild. 119 attenders went through all the old time intricate processes of shearing the sheep, carding and spinning the wool into yarn, dyeing yarn with vegetable dyes, and finally weaving the patterns. 30 high school students from Michigan furnished the paint and labor to re-paint Burkham School House<\/a>. Young people from a Berea church cleaned the swimming pool, improved the grounds, and helped plant cane.<\/span><\/p>\n

The first annual Homecoming<\/a> was organized in August, with more than 100 students from every decade and program of PMSS since 1913 in attendance.<\/span><\/p>\n

Boy Scout outdoor activities included a canoe trip to Red River Gorge. Young women of staff and community formed an exercise club. Homemakers continued their meetings. A Sunday School and Church group used Burkham School House and the Chapel<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Kentucky Heritage Commission declared “The William Creech House<\/a>\u201d and \u201cThe Adrian Metcalfe House” to be \u201cKentucky Landmarks Worthy of Preservation.”<\/span><\/p>\n

A special Board Meeting in Berea March 7, 1975, considered the proposal of Mr. Clyde Bennett, Harlan County (son of early Pine Mountain student Fairanna Day Bennett Creech) to make a gift of $100,000.00 for a home for homeless children. Many questions were raised, including total funds needed for such a project, current recommendations for family or family-type placements instead of institutional placements, and alternative suggestions of a Harian County program for Emotionally Disturbed Children, such as the one Preston Lewis is involved with.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mrs. Wilma Stokely was nominated by the Berea Board of Trustees as a representative on the Pine Mountain Board of Trustees. The PMSS Board voted acceptance.<\/span><\/p>\n

A group of Berea student teachers lived at Pine Mountain, taught at Green Hills.<\/span><\/p>\n

An \u201cAppreciation dinner” for Harlan County friends was held in May, 1975.<\/span><\/p>\n

A 4-Square Gospel camp was held at PMSS during summer. The Dayton Church camp came July 20-16.<\/span><\/p>\n
