Cawood H. S. in Harlan.<\/span><\/p>\n The Little School\/Kindergarten became part of a Federal Aid\/Harlan County Title I\u00a0program, along with a Remedial Reading Program.<\/span><\/p>\n Page 2, 1966-67<\/span><\/p>\n Pine Mountain was host to many groups visiting or working in the area: Appalachian Volunteers, VISTA, VISA (American Friends Service Committee), Oak Park IL Community Church Youth Group, American Friends Service Committee Family Camp, National Teachers Corps, Detroit Educators (resulting from the Urban Workshop in Berea), Berea Faculty Study Tour, Berea Country Dancers, various reunions, rallies and organizational dinners, and many individuals.<\/span><\/p>\n Several PMSS staff persons were involved in a variety of county and state organizations: Ruth Boggs – County Extension Committee; Alvin Boggs – Harlan Ministerial Association, Harlan Planning Commission, Scouting; Mildred Mahoney – County Consultant on Pre-schools, Visits from Headstart & Title I to observe Little School; Brit Wilder, Soil Conservation Board; Burton Rogers – Little Shepherd Trail Board, Appalachian Regional Hospital, Extension Service Advisory Council, Harlan County Regional Library, Harlan Kiwanis Club, District Scout Committee, Harlan Co. Development Association.<\/span><\/p>\n Recent cultural events included a concert by the Annville School Chorus, an organ concert by John Campbell of Berea, and an organ concert by Fred Haley of Barbourville.<\/span><\/p>\n A $10,000.00 grant from the Steele-Reese Foundation was received, to be used for “the general purposes of the school.”<\/span><\/p>\n Current Trustees were: Richard Bentley, Barry Bingham<\/a>, Edward Dabney<\/a>, Francis Hutchins,<\/a> Marian Kingman<\/a>, Robert Shepherd, and Pat Wear. The following were added, to bring the number to 12: Rebecca Caudill Ayars, Springer Hoskins<\/a>, Martha Pride, Kenneth Thompson and Burton Rogers.<\/span><\/p>\n Alvin Boggs worked on compiling an extension of the Giffin Study, partly to learn if there was any continuity of population.<\/span><\/p>\n Visitors from Tibet at Berea College spent time at PMSS.<\/span><\/p>\n
