They include letters in response to the \u201cCallahan letter\u201d of September 1916 and to the destruction of\u00a0the first <a href=\"http:\/\/staging.pinemountainsettlement.net\/?page_id=461\">Mary Sinclair Burkham Schoolhouse<\/a> by fire in January 1919.<\/i><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>April 13 [1913].\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/staging.pinemountainsettlement.net\/?page_id=424\">Katherine Pettit<\/a> to Ethel. \u201cHow can I write you the letter I long to &#8230;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>January 3, 1913. Thomas H. Balliet to Ethel. \u201cPlease accept my hearty thanks for the pretty calendar. This is an ingenuous method of bringing before the public the aims and character of this Settlement School.\u201d [possibly 1914]<\/p>\n<p>February 14, 1914. Bessie and Tom Todd to Arabella and Ethel. \u201cI was in Boston when your note arrived&#8230;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>[1915?] Two fragments. Eve [Newman] to Ethel. \u201cPollyanna has had kittens and had them just like asthetic people always do.\u201d and \u201cI wish you could see Bobby and Polly Anna.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>September 22, 1916. C.N. Manning to Ethel. \u201cYour letter concerning John Callahan\u2019s children was wonderfully pathetic and appealing&#8211;very effective, too, as the responses show.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>October 15, 1916. Mary W. Carter to Ethel. \u201cThe enclosed check is sent you for the family of seven children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>October 16, 1916. Rejoyce Collins Booth to Ethel. \u201cYour plea for help for the Callahan family came while we were in San Diego&#8230;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>October 18, 1916. Mrs. E.P. Ingersoll to Ethel. \u201cYours of Oct. 15th reached me today and I will reply promptly as I have a small check which I received today&#8230;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>October 20, 1916. Miriam F. Carpenter to Ethel. \u201cAfter a hundred and one delays, I am sending you a tiny check for myself and for Edith M.
