To Ethel de Long Zande<\/a> from Marian Barney, Executive Secretary, Protestant Episcopal Orphan Asylum<\/a>, Louisville, KY, responding to Zande\u2019s letter of the 23rd, stating that the Asylum would be \u201cglad to receive M. But because we are uncertain of her medical condition, we may have her go to one of our foster homes, where the foster mother is an excellent woman, with experience as a practical nurse.\u201d <\/em>Tells how they \u201cloved J.M. \u2026\u00a0 Some day, we hope to be able to care for girls who need the intensive building up before an operation as M. did\u2026.\u201d <\/em>[Handwritten notation at bottom of letter: \u201cMiss Kraft (sic) take M. to dentist.\u201d<\/em>]<\/p>\n\n\n\n [019] <\/strong>January 31, 1924. To Miss Barney from EZ (Zande), stating when M.B. will be sent to the Asylum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n [020]<\/strong> February 4, 1924. To Zande from Barney, reporting that M.B. had arrived at the Asylum. Miss Crafts will arrange for her dental work. Barney encloses copies of medical blanks to be completed when a PMSS doctor examines her. \u201cWe would particularly like to know about the condition of the head, the skin, and the eyes.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n [021]<\/strong> April 3, 1924. To Miss Marian Barney, Children\u2019s Bureau, Louisville, KY, from EZ (Zande), thanking Zande for her March 20th letter. Barney \u201chas written for the aunt\u2019s permission to have J. take the psychological test this spring.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n [022]<\/strong> April 7, 1924. To Zande from Barney, enclosing a copy of the History Outline from the Psychological Clinic and the March 20th letter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n [023]<\/strong> May 3, 1924. To Barney from EZ (Zande). \u201cWe are sending J.M. to Louisville\u2026.for her tonsils operation. Can she come to you when she is discharged from the City Hospital for the psychological test?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n [024]<\/strong> May 16, 1924. To Zande from Barney, who received Zande\u2019s letter too late and canceled the doctor\u2019s appointment; will re-schedule when informed of J.\u2019s arrival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n [025]<\/strong> May 20, 1924. To Barney from EZ (Zande), thanking her for her \u201cpatience with Pine Mountain!\u201d <\/em>Zande will bring J. as soon as possible, after her own two children recover from whooping cough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n [026]<\/strong> June 25, 1924. To Miss Watkins, Protestant Episcopal Orphan Asylum, Louisville, KY, from EZ (Zande), thanking Watkins for caring for J.M. and tending to \u201csome of her more glaring needs. \u2026 We are hoping that her trip may have done a world of good, and she is certainly come home full of ardor to do her very best.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n [027]<\/strong> June 26, 1924. To Zande from Barney. \u201c…[F]rom now on we must insist that all applications for either the Boy\u2019s or Girls\u2019 Orphanage go through this office.\u201d <\/em>Encloses medical blanks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n [029] <\/strong>August 14, 1924. To Zande from Barney, responding to Zande\u2019s letter about J.M. \u201cI am sorry that we can do nothing for her here.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n [030]<\/strong> August 19, 1924. To Zande from Barney, regretting that she missed seeing Zande \u201cat Sts. Mary and Elizabeth <\/em>(Hospital)\u201d <\/em>and continued to look forward to meeting her. Meanwhile, Barney awaits Zande\u2019s plans for L.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n [031] <\/strong>August 26, 1924. To Barney from [truncated, likely Zande], who regrets missing her at the hospital; apologizes for not sending papers to the Girls\u2019 Home. Zande heard from L.S. about her medical test and hopes L. can stay for further testing. Zande will ask Miss Virginia Burton, City Hospital nurse and a former PMSS student, to help L. with arrangements to travel to PMSS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n [032], [032a]<\/strong> N.D.
